I was called to the Alberta Bar in 1987 having articled to William J. Major, Q.C. after graduating from law at the University of Calgary in 1986. I remained with the firm my entire career. I am now retired. Having grown up in Banff, I remain an avid backcountry adventurist. Although my climbing days are behind me, I continue to enjoy hiking and both nordic and alpine skiing. I also continue to enjoy a variety of other sports including hockey, tennis and occasionally golf. I am a true Europhile revelling in European history, food and culture with a tendency to travel to Europe with my family as ofter as I can. I enjoy woodworking, doing my own home renovations, gardening and oil painting. My decision to retire was driven by a desire to spend more time on my many hobbies and sporting activities.
I was a member of the Canadian and Calgary Bar Associations. I am a past-chairman of the Media and Communication Law sub-section of the Alberta Branch of the Canadian Bar Association. I have been an instructor at the University of Calgary teaching a graduate studies course in Communication Law.
I have been active in my community: I served as President of the Westwood Hockey Association for 3 years; am a past director of the Brentwood Community Association; and until recently, have been involved in the organization and administration of men's recreational hockey teams.
