Currently a decision is pending in the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench regarding whether copyright can subsist in seismic data. Notwithstanding longstanding industry acceptance that copyright does subsist, government boards, oil and gas companies and, surprisingly, some seismic companies maintain that there is no copyright in seismic data.
