Legal Assistant - Litigation
Caron & Partners LLP is a mid-sized Calgary law firm dedicated to providing clients with quality legal services and strategic counselling for over 55 years. We offer a broad range of legal services in various practice areas.
Overview: This position requires strong administrative and organizational skills. The successful candidate must be able to work well under pressure, multitask, prioritize work, and take direction. A team-oriented approach and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are also essential.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
Drafting pleadings and correspondence;
Assisting lawyers with file management and file tasks;
Organizing records for various litigation purposes;
Communicating with lawyers, clients and fellow firm staff;
Opening and closing client files and preparation of engagement letters;
Diarizing and maintaining a bring-forward system for court dates, questioning and file tasks;
Liaising with Court clerks regarding Court filings;
Preparing client accounts on a monthly billing cycle, including follow-up with clients regarding accounts receivable.
Email management and filing;
Maintaining client contact lists;
Assisting lawyers in managing schedules;
Skills and Experience Required:
A minimum of 3 years experience in a litigation practice within a law firm
Strong client-facing and communication skills
Excellent organization and strong prioritization skills
Familiarity with litigation practices and procedures is an asset
Familiarity with Commercial List matters is an asset
Proofreading skills (ability to check typed material for grammatical, typographical, spelling, word usage and format errors)
Experience with litigation production software, such as IPRO, is an asset
Proficiency with Outlook, Adobe, Excel and Word
Familiarity with MS Teams
Experience dealing with the Personal Property Registry, Land Titles Registrar and Alberta Corporate Registry is an asset.
